What Does It Mean To Nurture Your Body?

Our bodies do so many incredible things for us every day. They naturally regulate stress hormones, digest food, move us around our beautiful earth, tell us when something is painful or pleasureful. They rebuild themselves when injured and hold their spiritual, physical, and emotional selves. So when I ask the question, "What does it mean to nurture your body?" there are so many answers you could give.

Here are some examples:

Some people nurture themselves through routine, fitness, and nutrition. Others choose mindful meditation, nature walks, and massage. And others nurture their bodies by listening. Now, this may seem like a simple act, but the truth is so many of us are running on autopilot. For instance, we may notice our shoulder is hurting, but nurturing your body would look at the "why", why it is breaking, and what it needs to feel better. Perhaps you have been sitting with poor posture and need to straighten your back, maybe the stress of the world is causing your shoulders to feel dull and achy, and you need a nice bath to relax and devour some personal time. Or, perhaps your body wants to move and be stretched. There is no correct answer; the truth is you know what your body needs when you choose to listen to it.

What do I do?

Personally, I love routine, but I have a hard time sticking to it. So, in order to get the best of both worlds, I listen to what my body wants each day. I have no set schedule or self-care to-do list. Instead, I intuitively listen and act based on what feels good. If something isn't resonating with me, I don't do it. I choose to do things that make me emotionally, physically, and spiritually joyed. This is what listening to my body feels like to me.

What does it mean to you?

What does it feel like to you? Does it mean building strength? Eating nurturing food? Using only the best skin care ingredients for your complexion? There are so many ways we can actively care for our bodies. And if you can’t think of the last time you intentionally watched for yourself, I recommend you take a moment and find what feels good. Because in this carnation, we have this one body. This is one container that holds the essence of who we are. Cherish it.
